Having learnt both Eastern and Western painting techniques, and exposed to Fauvism and Post-impressionism, Liu Kang, one of the artists commonly associated with the development of a distinctive 'Nanyang style' in art, was driven by a desire to develop his artistic styles and techniques to best capture his new surroundings in tropical Southeast Asia.
